Who We Are

.

What is a Certified Orthotist and Prosthetist?
Certified orthotists and prosthetists are health care professionals who are specifically educated and trained to manage comprehensive orthotic and/or prosthetic patient care. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management. They are specifically trained and educated to provide or manage the provision of custom-designed, fabricated, modified and fitted external orthoses (braces) to orthotic patients.

The selection of the orthosis is based on clinical assessment and the physician’s prescription, in order to restore physiological function. Orthotists have been fitting braces including cranial helmets for over 100 years in the United States. Prosthetic care may include patient evaluation, prosthesis design, fabrication, fitting and modification to treat limb loss for purposes of restoring physiological function and/or cosmesis.
